Mechanical Engineer is the one who is responsible in designing complex mechanical systems and in ensuring smooth operation of machinery systems in industrial practices.
You will receive a thorough fundamental of the engineering sciences and hands-on laboratory, real-world problem solving and application of theory taught and supervised by our well respected academicians from various fields of expertise in mechanical engineering, and supported by world class facilities.
The fields in FTKM are mainly divided into four areas of study:
This field involves the concept of structural mechanics and materials, and structural analysis.
Material engineering emphasises on characterization and behaviour of various engineering materials, including metallic and non-metallic materials, polymers, ceramics, composites and advanced materials which still play important roles in many aspect of engineering structures.
You will study about Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics involving Heat Transfer, Energy Conversion, Energy Management, Building Maintenance and Internal Combustion Engines.
The concept should lead you to the generation of Renewable Energy and Alternatives Energy sources.
In automotive engineering, you will learn about designing, manufacturing and operation of an automobile. Some of the subjects are engine systems, chassis system, steering systems, engineering drawing.Â
This area is about innovation of products, new product development (NPD), engineering design analysis and design improvement of existing products. This requires substantial amount of technical skill in using computer technology to assist students in designing creative and innovative products. Examples of software used are AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA and ANSYS.
Students will also be exposed to the latest technology in prototype and model-making using state-of-the-art equipment including the 3D print technology.
Plant engineering covers the design and technologies of plants facilities, operations and maintenance. It includes power plant, oil refinery and manufacturing plants.
Maintenance engineering includes the maintenance management, strategies and methods of maintaining machineries and plants. The focus will be on the study of condition based maintenance and mechanical vibration. Among the methods that will be taught are vibration monitoring, wear & debris monitoring system, oil analysis and thermography.
Faculty of Technology and Mechanical Engineering (FTKM) provides comprehensive curriculum in the field of mechanical engineering accredited by Board of Engineers Malaysia through the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC, signatory of Washington Accord), Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC) and Malaysia Qualifications Agency (MQA). Â
A three-year programme designed to provide skilful and competent human resources in semi-professional level and able to engage in current technology transfer in mechanical engineering.
A four-year programme to equip students with knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering.
A four-year programme to equip students with knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering in general, but focusing on the applications in automotive engineering.
A programme to equip students with knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering. The duration is 5.5 years minimum and can be up to 10 years maximum. Suitable for students who are working, but need flexible time for learning.Â
This programme is designed to extend the knowledge and skills gained from the bachelor degree and to develop new professional skills of graduates in a particular area of study in mechanical engineering.Â
The student will have to complete a series of modules following a set time-table of lectures, seminars and project work.
This programme is to train a professional in which research skills are valuable. The student will work in an independent, and focused area of a research project supervised by lecturers who have expertise in the corresponding field of study.
The student will have to submit a thesis followed by an oral examination (viva-voce).
This programme is to train the future scientist in the field of mechanical engineering. The student will involve in a more in-depth research project to find new knowledges/theories/applications for the better world.
The programme consists of two different modes:
Established in 2001, formerly known as Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM) was among the seven faculties in Kolej Universiti Teknikal Kebangsaan Malaysia (KUTKM), the 1st technical university and the 14th public university in Malaysia. In 2007, KUTKM was rebranded as the Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and FKM has since played important roles in producing highly competent graduates contributing to the development of Malaysia and the world.
We are committed to deliver the best teaching and learning possible, as well as great research environment to nurture the young minds to be the creative thinkers and problem solvers.
Strategic collaboration with international universities and industries for academic, research and services.
